North Charleston High’s Henry Darby to Receive Order of the Palmetto, State’s Highest Civilian Honor
Governor Henry McMaster will present North Charleston High School (NCHS) Principal Henry Darby (right) with the Order of the Palmetto for Darby’s efforts to provide financial assistance for his students and their families. Darby, who also serves as a Charleston County Councilman, has been working a third job at Walmart; all of the money he makes as an associate at Walmart was used to support NCHS families.
His story has attracted significant local and national media coverage, including a report by NBC’s The Today Show.
The Order of the Palmetto is the state’s highest civilian honor awarded to citizens of South Carolina for extraordinary lifetime service and achievements of national or statewide significance. The Order of the Palmetto is a once in a lifetime achievement.
The presentation will take place on Monday, February 8th, 2021 at NCHS. Attendance will be by
invitation only due to COVID-19 protocols.
