Darius Rucker Named “Southerner of the Year” by Southern Living
Country musician, lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish, and Charleston native Darius Rucker was named “Southerner of the Year” by Southern Living.
The magazine says he earned the designation “in celebration of his meaningful charity work and myriad accomplishments, from raising over $2 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital over the years and supporting public education and junior golf in South Carolina, to taking on the role of national chair for the new National Museum of African American Music and inspiring a new generation of artists by becoming the first Black co-host of the CMA Awards since Charley Pride in 1975.”
In an interview with Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans for the April issue of Southern Living, Rucker talks about the lessons his mother taught him and the profound impact she had on his life, his work with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, why giving back is important to him, what it means to be Southerner of the Year right now, and more.
