South Carolina Aquarium Reaches Crucial Fundraising Goal
In a year filled with hardship and seemingly insurmountable hurdles, the South Carolina Aquarium sought the community’s help through the “Our World Without” campaign.
“It was inconceivable to us that we might lose our ability to educate schoolchildren, or save the lives of sick and injured sea turtles – programs that define the very heart and soul of our mission,” said Kevin Mills, president and CEO of the South Carolina Aquarium.
Three weeks before its self-imposed deadline, the Aquarium is humbled and proud to announce the successful closure of the campaign as their community of supporters rallied to save its two biggest programs. The funds raised secure pillars of the Aquarium’s mission: The Sea Turtle Care Center and their education programming.
When a sea turtle strands on the South Carolina coast in need of rehabilitation, the Aquarium team will be ready to answer the call, providing life-saving care. Educators will continue to engage with thousands of children every day, through in person visits and virtual lessons, inspiring the next generation of biologists and environmental advocates. These efforts will persist as a result of the passionate and innovative fundraising efforts from thousands of supporters representing multiple countries and nearly every state in the U.S. Every social media share, birthday fundraiser, 5K run and roadside “concert” provided invaluable contributions and exposure to the Aquarium’s plight.
Mills has a final thought to share with the closure and success of the Our World Without campaign:
“We are so grateful for the tremendous outpouring of public support that enables this work to continue. We’ve discovered that our true heart and soul all along was actually the community we are so fortunate to serve.”
