Butcher & Bee and Off Track Ice Cream today announced their collaboration on a new spring ice cream flavor – Vegan Sourdough Toast Crunch.

The local businesses will host a kick off event on Sunday, March 21st from noon until 2 pm on Butcher & Bee’s patio. Guests can enjoy the ice cream for $6 per scoop and $1 per topping.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Pay It Forward Charleston.

For the Vegan Sourdough Toast Crunch, Butcher & Bee prepares their sourdough bread for the ice cream in three forms: fresh loaves, sweet crumbles, and caramelized croutons. They make their popular sourdough bread fresh daily using their 6-year-old sourdough starter.

A representative from Off Track Ice Cream says they begin by steeping the fresh loaves into their vegan ice cream base of organic coconut cream, cashews, and sunflower oil for multiple hours to let the sourdough flavors fully marinate. They then blend sweet sourdough crumbles into the ice cream base to add dimension – both in taste and texture.

As their sourdough ice cream churns, they add in bite-sized chunks of the caramelized croutons. These sourdough croutons are crunchy on the outside and spongy on the inside with maple syrup notes plus hints of brown sugar and vanilla.

Toppings made by the Butcher & Bee team include: fermented honey, tahini chocolate sauce, tahini chocolate chip cookie pieces, andhouse made vegan whipped cream.

Off Track Ice Cream’s first collaboration was with Bodega Charleston. They created a Vegan Nutella Babka.
