Dorchester County Offices Closing at Noon on March 18th

The National Weather Service anticipates strong to severe thunderstorms to arrive in Dorchester County after 3 pm today, Thursday, March 18th and remain through the evening hours. As a result of the potentially dangerous conditions, all Dorchester County Administrative Offices, Courts, and Convenience Sites will close at noon today to allow employees time to prepare. 

The Board of Elections and Voter Registration Meeting scheduled for 4:45 pm on Thursday, March 18th has been canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

All Dorchester County Public Safety Departments, Public Works, and Water and Sewer Department are making the necessary preparations to respond as needed.

All Town of Summerville Offices will close at noon on Thursday, March 18th. All curbside garbage and recycling collection for the Town of Summerville will began at 6 am today and will secure at 2 pm.

All City of North Charleston Offices will close at 1 pm on Thursday, March 18th.

Residents and business owner are asked to secure furniture and other loose items outside that could become projectiles and bring pets indoors. If a tornado should occur seek shelter in an interior room, away from doors and windows, on the lowest level of the structure they’re in.

9-1-1 should only be utilized to save a life, report a fire, or a crime. Downed trees and flooded roadways should be reported to the Consolidated Dispatch Center at (843) 873-5111.

Dorchester County Schools

Dorchester School Districts Two (DD2) and Four (DD4) and the Dorchester County Career and Technology Center (Career School) will have early dismissal on Thursday, March 18th. The career school will close at noon. Dismissal times for DD2 and DD4 are as follows:

Dorchester School District Two

  • Elementary Schools – 10:30 am
  • Middle Schools – 11:30 am
  • High Schools, GAP, and Rollings Middle School of the Arts – 12:30 pm

Dorchester School District Four

  • Elementary Schools – 11:30 am
  • Woodland High School and Harleyville-Ridgeville Middle School – 12 pm
  • St. George Middle School – 12:15 pm
