Bucs unable to rally back in 35-17 loss to Monmouth

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Charleston Southern was unable to overcome a trio of Juwon Farri touchdown carries as the Buccaneers fell on the road to host Monmouth in Big South Conference play on Saturday afternoon, 35-17.
The Bucs (0-2, 0-2 Big South) fought their way back into the game thanks to the right-arm ofJack Chambersas the redshirt junior quarterback posted a career-high 341 yards on 31-of-48 passing. However, the Hawks (1-0, 1-0 Big South) took advantage of a trio of CSU interceptions and converted them into 14 points on their way to securing the conference win.
Geoffrey Wall recorded a career-high 10 catches for 66 yards in the contest, while Cayden Jordan highlighted his afternoon with four catches for a career-high 108 yards and a touchdown. Kendrick Belladded a receiving touchdown in the Bucs’ loss.
Farri finished with 124 rushing yards and three touchdowns to pace the Monmouth offense, while Terrance Greene Jr. added five catches for 166 yards and a score through the air. Tony Muskett was 18-of-26 for 297 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively,Justin McIntirepaced the Bucs’ defense with 14 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss. Anton Williams added a sack, while Nick Salley chipped in six tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss. Eddie Morales had a team-high eight tackles for the Hawks and added an interception and two pass breakups, while Da’Quan Grimes added seven stops.
Charleston Southern is scheduled to continue the 2021 spring season on Saturday, April 10, with their home opener against Robert Morris at the Whitfield Stadium Center and Buccaneer Field. Kickoff between the Bucs and RMU is set for noon.
