Charleston Journalist Quintin Washington Tapes His 2,000th Interview
Popular Charleston journalist and interviewer Quintin Washington is celebrating the recording of his 2,000th local interview for his web show “Quintin’s Close-Ups.” The milestone interview was recorded on Thursday.
Washington, the founder, CEO, and executive producer of the “Quintin’s Close-Ups,” started the show in May of 2012. He tapes, edits, and produces all of the interviews on his own almost every day.
Over the years, Washington has received several honors for his work. In September, Washington was honored on the floor of the United States Congress by former Congressman Joe Cunningham. A month later, Charleston mayor John Tecklenburg and Charleston City Council declared October 13th, 2020, “Quintin Washington Day” in the City of Charleston. In 2014, he received a House Resolution from the South Carolina House of Representatives for the significant impact of “Quintin’s Close-Ups.”
“I give all the glory to God and Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior, for reaching this huge milestone,” Washington said. “While I celebrate this milestone, and again, it’s a huge milestone, the real reward is when viewers around the Lowcountry and beyond are able to be informed by the interviews that I produce every day.”
He says some of his top interviews have been interviewing presidential candidates and locals like Rev. Anthony Thompson, former Charleston mayor Joe Riley, former Charleston County School Board chairwoman Liz Alston, the late Julian Smith, and community activist Tony Lewis.
Since 2012, he has taped interviews with celebrity chefs, book authors, politicians, lawyers, doctors, scientists, community leaders, school leaders, Christian leaders, and other newsmakers. His interview with United States Congressman Mark Sanford in 2014 made headlines around the world with MSNBC and BuzzFeed running online stories about the interview.
Washington has a following of over 13,000 people on his multiple social media platforms. Before “Quintin’s Close-Ups,” he was a host/producer/reporter for WLCN-TV in Charleston, where he hosted and produced an interview web show called “Quintin Reports.” Washington began his journalism career at WCSC-TV in 1996 as a news intern while in middle school. He is a native of Charleston.
