“Few places have witnessed the artistic creativity of the American people quite like the Lowcountry,” Rep. Mace said. “From Mary Whyte to Lisa Gilyard-Rivers, Susan Klein, and Sara Frankel, our little corner of the world has produced so many incredible people who make us laugh, cry, and remember.
To help choose this year’s winner, Rep. Mace has established a panel of local artists, including:
- Mary Whyte, a Charleston-based, internationally known watercolorist and winner of the South Carolina Governor’s Award for the Arts in 2013
- Lisa Gilyard-Rivers, owner and artist of Legacy Art Gallery in Beaufort
- Adrianne Kirsch-Lively, owner of Camellia Art Gallery in Bluffton and Hilton Head
- Susan Klein, a painting professor at the College of Charleston whose sculpture and painting works are on display nationwide
- Sara Frankel, the Art Department Chair at the College of Charleston
“There are so many talented, young artists across the region whose work should be on display in the halls of our Capitol,” Rep. Mace said. “I can’t wait to see what y’all got!”
