Press Release

In 1990, national artists Rita Orr, Joseph Orr, Dennis T. Yates, and Pete Peterson, along with arts advocates William R. Mitchell, Martha Mitchell, and Dr. Donald Ruthenberg, began planning a national exhibit that would focus on oil and acrylic media.

On March 12, 1991, NOAPS was founded. NOAPS supports artists around the world in striving for artistic excellence by recognizing great art, enriching education, enhancing skills, challenging abilities and expanding marketing opportunities. NOAPS focus is on providing an environment that inspires artists, evolves talent, and creates a venue in which to display artistic talent and nurtures achievement and success while having fun.

Principle Gallery Charleston is thrilled to host NOAPS’s 4th annual exhibition, which will feature events running in conjunction with the exhibition. These events, which are free and open to the public include a Plein Air Painting Competition on May 5th and 6th, a painting demonstration by artist Donna Nyzio of how she captures boats and seaside life on the morning of Friday May 7th, and a demonstration by portrait artist Patrick McGannon of how he approaches portrait paining on Saturday, May 8th.

The exhibition will feature 152 artworks from 152 NOAPS artists from across the United States and around the world.  Please visit the Principle Gallery in Charleston anytime from May 7th to June 2nd to see the amazing work of this year’s winners. Celebrate their accomplishment at the open house on May 7th from 5 pm to 8 pm!
