Charleston City Council to Consider Authorizing, but Not Implementing a Curfew
At today’s 5 pm meeting of Charleston City Council, council members are expected to consider an emergency ordinance that would allow, but not implement, a curfew if circumstances require it in the coming days. You can see the ordinance here.
This move is in anticipation of possible protests in relation to the verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.
Under the ordinance, any curfew would be called by the mayor, in consultation with the police chief.
The meeting will be streamed on the city’s YouTube page, here: https://www.youtube.com/c/CityofCharlestonSCgov/.
