Keep North Charleston Beautiful Celebrates Earth Day by Planting 450 Pollinator-Friendly Plants in Butterfly Gardens

In celebration of Earth Day, Keep North Charleston Beautiful volunteers will be completing a beautification project in the Park Circle Butterfly Garden. This volunteer event will take place over four days beginning on Monday, April 19th and wrapping up on Earth Day, Thursday, April 22nd.

Volunteers from seven local businesses and community groups will be working in the garden each day to install new plants, install cardboard as a weed barrier in the garden, install pine straw, and divide and transplant plants that are already in the garden. All plants were specially grown by Roots and Shoots Nursery of Charleston to guarantee pollinator-friendly, pesticide-free plants for the gardens.

Groups volunteering for this project include Charleston RiverDogs staff, Coast Guard Cutter JAMES, the Factory at Garco Apartments staff, Fairfield Inn & Suites North/LRP Hotels, JetBlue for Good, Starbucks, Workbox Staffing, and many other KNCB volunteers.

“Earth Day is always an exciting time for us at KNCB,” said Carmen Hanlon, Keep North Charleston Beautiful Director. “This is the time of year when special attention is given to environmental projects, and people are excited to do their part to give back to the community. We are very fortunate to be able to continue our annual Earth Day project with a fantastic group of volunteers! Many of our year-round volunteers bring their families out to volunteer during Earth Day activities and have told me they are excited to share the garden with their loved ones. It makes me smile to see our volunteers feel a sense of ownership in the garden after spending time making it beautiful.”
