“Awesome Southern Women” Author to Host Book Signing for Charity at Turning Page Bookshop
Jenna Teves, author of Awesome Southern Women coloring book will take part in a book signing and fundraising event at Turning Page Bookshop on Saturday, May 15th from 2 pm to 3:30 pm.
All proceeds from sales of the book will benefit Destiny Community Cafe, South Carolina’s only pay-what-you-can cafe. Teves said she chose to support the cafe because it is “an endeavor that resonates with the spirit of the work of many of the women in the book – that of seeking equity and justice in a tangible, local, and grassroots way.”
According to Teves, she was moved to write the coloring book honoring Southern Women because she wanted to make their inspirational stories more accessible.
“In the American imagination, the south is represented as sleepy, stagnant, backward-looking,” Teves said. “I grew up in the West and Midwest, and thought of the south as anything but progressive – but when you scratch beneath the surface, the south has been the birthplace of powerful progressive movements throughout its history. Women – often overlooked in history – have played a key role in making the South and the country what it is today. This coloring book celebrates just a few of these inspirational women.”
The coloring book, which is meant for both children and adults, features the stories of 20 Southern women, past and present, who have changed our world in meaningful ways.
