Cougars Add Two Standout Transfers For 2021-22 Season

Head coach Pat Kelsey and his staff have signed two high-level additions who will join the College of Charleston men’s basketball program for the 2021-22 season.

Charles Lampten, a 6-foot-11, 230-pound combo forward from Roanoke, Texas, is a transfer from Dawson Community College in Glendive, Mont. Originally from Cameroon, Lampten averaged 10.1 points, 8.7 rebounds and three blocked shots in 23 games played as a sophomore at Dawson. His averages of 3.5 offensive rebounds and three blocked shots per game ranked among the junior college national leaders during the 2020-21 season. Lampten spent his high school career at Bryon Nelson High School in Roanoke, Texas.

“I am excited about the endless potential, athleticism, and character that Charles brings to our program,” Kelsey said. “His God given gifts of length and size are obvious, but it is his effort and motor that separate him. He is a committed student of the game and a great competitor. Charles is beloved by everyone in the Dawson program which speaks volumes of his character. This includes Coach Petersen’s children, whom Charles babysits. I love that.”

Highly sought after, Lampten comes to Charleston with four years of eligibility and is expected to make an immediate impact.

Dimitrius Underwood will arrive in Charleston as a graduate transfer from NCAA Division III University of Texas – Dallas after recently earning his Bachelor’s in Finance. A 6-foot-4, 215-pound native of Mesquite, Texas, Underwood was a two-time NCAA Division III All-American at UT-Dallas including an NABC All-America First Team selection as a junior. Underwood is a slashing wing who will provide the Cougars with tremendous versatility. He averaged 19.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game last season while finishing among the national leaders with 2.35 steals and 6.5 assists per game.

“Dimitrius is a producer, plain and simple,” Kelsey said. “He effects the game in many ways, which is illustrated by his high assist rate and rebounding numbers. His versatility is his calling card. He is tough, can defend multiple positions and has a great feel for the game. Dimitrius is a great student and a great kid. A winning player.”

An already accomplished player at the collegiate level, Underwood brings maturity and flexibility to the Cougars roster.

Lampten and Underwood join an already deep and talented class of newcomers for the 2021-22 season that includes Fah’mir Ali, Dalton Bolon, Ben Burnham, Nick Farrar, John Meeks and Reyne Smith.
