Local Organization Holding Dolphin Count on May 22nd
Interested in being a marine mammal scientist for a day? On Saturday, May 22nd, the Lowcountry Marine Mammal Network will host a Dolphin Count Event, which is free to attend and takes place at 11 locations across the Charleston peninsula.
At each site, the organization will have volunteers who will walk participants through the dolphin count surveys which last about 30 minutes. Attendees are welcome to just do one survey or multiple.
In total, they will have 3 time slots: 9 am, 10 am, and 11 am. During the surveys or “counts,” the community counts the total number of dolphins they see at their location. This information is then used to create distribution and abundance maps which are shared with the community and local legislation.
The event is family-friendly and is for all abilities and ages. Click here for more info.
