Charleston Symphony Orchestra League Announces Summer Fête
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League (CSOL) will host its Summer Fête on Sunday, June 27th from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at the Charleston Yacht Club (27 Lockwood Drive).
The Fête will be a casual yet elegant evening in a beautiful setting overlooking the Ashley River and City Marina. The stage will be set for a delectable charcuterie array of gourmet specialty items with a wine pairing and dessert. Tables will be socially distanced and masks are required.
Maura Hogan, Arts Critic at the Post and Courier, will speak about the revolutionary Beethoven, to the revolutionary Charleston women suffragettes and the arts revolution. In recognition of the event, Marjory Wentworth, recipient of the 2021 South Carolina Governor’s Awards for the Arts, has gifted a poem to be shared with attendees. Maestro Yuriy Bekker will share highlights of the upcoming season with CSO musicians performing. The evening will conclude with auction-style bidding for Fund The Need to directly benefit the CSO.
Celebrating a remarkable year, the CSOL was able to host several successful fundraisers, starting last fall with the sold out Swing for the Symphony golf tournament, the Tour of Homes on Kiawah Island, its first ever Historic Charleston Tour of Homes in May and its annual Car Sponsorship. In addition, the CSOL awarded $17,500 in student scholarships.
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO) is one of the few orchestras in the country to perform a full season of live performances during the 2020-21 season. However, reduced attendance due to Covid restrictions has resulted in a revenue loss of $1 million.
As the CSO’s largest institutional donor, the CSOL is counting on the generosity of its members and friends to help offset this revenue loss. Jaimie Flack, Event Chair said; “During this unprecedented time CSO concerts have been a gift to many. Now it’s our turn to make a gift to the CSO. We expect the event to be a sell-out and want to see Fund The Need raise $25,000 or more again this year. Come join us for the celebration!”
Tickets may be purchased on-line at csolinc.org. Ticket levels are VIP Supporters $500, Supporters $250 and Friends $125. If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute, on-line donations may be made at csolinc.org. Fund the Need donations may be made on-line beginning June 1st. Reserve early. Seating is limited. All proceeds benefit the Charleston Symphony and CSOL Music Scholarships. Information about joining the League is available on the website under the Membership tab.
