Park Circle Pride Kicks off Tuesday with Pride Flag Raising at Commonhouse Aleworks
Park Circle Pride, a new annual festival celebrating the LGBTQ+ community in Park Circle/North Charleston, kicks off Tuesday at 5 pm with a Historical Pride Flag Raising at Commonhouse Aleworks. The festival will include six days of eclectic events throughout the area and benefits local organizations We Are Family and Alliance for Full Acceptance (AFFA).
Mayor Keith Summey will be doing the official raising of the Pride Flag to kick-off the inaugural event.
“North Charleston proudly accepts all and believes our diversity is what makes us strong,” Mayor Summey said. “I commend the merchants of the Park Circle area for organizing a celebration of our LGBTQ+ community, which will provide wonderful opportunities for fellowship, learning, and growth.”
The mayor also issued an official proclamation naming the 1st of June “Rita Taylor Day” in the City of North Charleston. Taylor was a LGBTQ+ leader that owned the local gay bars, DejaVu and DejaVu II. She passed away in 2020.
