After 15 years Downtown, City Lights Coffee to Close August 6th
City Lights Coffee today announced on social media that after 15 years serving the downtown community, they will close their doors on August 6th. However, the closure may not be good as the team is “working tirelessly…to secure a new space.”
According to the coffee shop’s social media post, they are closing due to a combination of COVID and the “astronomical rent” their landlord proposed upon the expiration of their lease.
The social media post can be seen below:
“We have sad news.
BRACE YOURSELF.
City Lights at 141 Market Street will CLOSE August 6th, 2021.
The end of an era. 15 years of community, coffee, and love is coming to an end
We are working tirelessly trying to secure a new space, so send us all your positive energy
We need all the angel investor suggestions, non traditional loan suggestions you have!
A combination of COVID and our landlord has led to this. Our lease is up, and we cannot afford the astronomical rent she has proposed.
This place is so special. Marriages were sparked here, life long friendships started here, a real community.
Let’s all come together and make these last 2 months the best we’ve had! If we haven’t seen you in a long time please swing by! If we see you everyday swing by!
If you have any photos of City Lights over the years please send them to citylightscoffee@hotmail.com
We want to flood our feed with all the sweet memories we can!
As things have gone back to normal, let’s really celebrate a small business that has produced a community that feeds our soul! Let’s all come together and really celebrate this little shop that has given us all so much joy”
City Lights Coffee is located at 141 N Market Street.
