Pet Helpers’ Pet Food Bank Receives 39,000 lbs Donation from Chewy
Pet Helpers’ Pet Food Bank, which distributes pet food to pet owners in times of financial hardship, recently received a massive 39,000 pound donation from online pet-supply retailer, Chewy.
To ensure the greatest impact in the Charleston community, Pet Helpers will be hosting a dog food and cat litter distribution event on Saturday, June 26th from 11 am to 2 pm (or until supplies run out), at the facility at 1447 Folly Road. No appointments are needed.
The Chewy donation, which was arranged in part by the Humane Society of the United States, arrived early on Thursday, June 10th. With help from All Seasons True Value on Folly Road, a Pet Helpers community partner, a truck loaded with 36 pallets of cat litter, dog food, and other pet supplies, was unloaded by staff and volunteers.
“We are so grateful to receive this life-changing donation from Chewy, and couldn’t be more thankful for the folks at the Humane Society of the United States for selecting our shelter to receive this blessing,” said Pet Helpers’ Executive Director Melissa Susko. “We’re proud to put this donation to use directly where it’s needed most in our community.”
In addition to the distribution event, Pet Helpers will be sharing the donation with pet food banks at partner shelters across the Lowcountry, including Dorchester Paws, Charleston Animal Society, Berkeley County Animal Shelter, Saint Francis Animal Center, Corner of Kindness, and Friends of Colleton County Animal Shelter.
