Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) has postponed the closure of the Dorchester Road Regional Library, located at 6325 Dorchester Road. The library, which was originally scheduled to close on July 3rd, will now close on Saturday, July 17th at 5 pm to undergo renovations as part of the ongoing referendum-funded project. The postponement is due to a change in the renovation construction schedule.

The library, which is the fifth regional branch to receive renovations following the closure of the Otranto Road, Hurd/St. Andrews, John’s Island, and Mt. Pleasant libraries, will receive the following updates:

  • New interior finishes
  • Replacement of shelving
  • Refreshed collection items (books, audiobooks, etc.)
  • New furniture
  • Technology upgrades
  • New designated children and teen areas

Once construction is underway, it is expected to take approximately one year to complete.

During the closure, items placed on hold can be routed to another library by selecting an alternate location when placing a hold online or by calling one of our branches.

Book returns will remain available on site through July 28th. Once book returns are closed, patrons can return items to any other open location.
