BCLS Collaborates with Keep Berkeley Beautiful for Seed Library

Published

on

Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) is collaborating with Keep Berkeley Beautiful and received a generous “seed” donation to implement a Seed Library. Customers can visit BCLS, click on Catalog and search Seed Library for a variety of herb and vegetable seed packets to check-out and keep (seed packets are not returned to the library). Contact any Berkeley County Library System location for assistance.

“Keep Berkeley Beautiful (KBB) is grateful for its Seed Library partnership with the Berkeley County Library System,” said KBB director Sarah McCarthy-Smith. “With both the seed packets and gardening educational materials, Berkeley County residents can successfully grow and harvest their own herbs, and/or vegetables.  The Seed Library can provide both community sustenance and splendor as well as an appreciation for nature while Keeping Berkeley Beautiful!”

With the funds from Keeping Berkeley Beautiful, the Berkeley County Library System was able to purchase 500 Non-GMO Vegetable and Herb seed packets and a seed display stand.

“A Seed Library has many benefits such as saving money by growing your own food, reducing stress and enhancing life by gardening, creating friendships with others, and learning about nature,” said Gene Brunson, Berkeley County Library System’s Library Director. “The Seed Library is one of many Library resources to help customers be successful with growing plants and living a healthy lifestyle.”
