Press Release

Charleston County Emergency Management is monitoring Tropical Storm Elsa as it develops in the Atlantic Ocean. According to the National Weather Service, the current track has the storm moving over the Florida Keys and into the Gulf of Mexico early next week. While the threat to South Carolina remains unknown, residents are encouraged to pay close attention to the forecast over the next few days.

“It is always important to be prepared and have a family plan during hurricane season,” said Acting Emergency Management Director Joe Coates. “While the effects were minimal, we’ve already experienced a tropical storm and generally the tropics tend to get more active as we get later into the season. Many of our newer residents may have never experienced a hurricane, so we strongly encourage everyone to check out our hurricane guide. It’s important to know your zone and evacuation route, and have plans in place should an evacuation be ordered this hurricane season.”
