Tropical Storm Elsa Recovery Efforts Underway in City of Charleston

City of Charleston recovery efforts have been underway since daybreak following last night’s severe weather related to Tropical Storm Elsa.
Crews from across city departments are assisting with recovery efforts and report the following at this time:
Emergency Management Division: The Public Safety Operations Center opened last night to manage the city’s response to the storm and remains open this morning as cleanup efforts continue.
Stormwater Department: Pumps are being used in low-lying areas throughout the city to assist with drainage following last night’s heavy rainfall.
Floodplain Management Division: Citizens who experienced damage due to water intrusion are asked to report it to the city’s Citizen Services Desk by visiting https://www.charleston-sc.gov/
Environmental Services Division: Street sweeping crews are out clearing debris from roadways and will be dispatched to areas of known flooding as the remaining water recedes.
Additionally, crews are moving throughout the city clearing debris from storm drains that became clogged as a result of the storm.
Garbage and trash collection began this morning once the heavy rain cleared and is now underway throughout the city.
Parks Department: Urban Forestry crews are assisting with efforts to clear downed tree limbs and other debris that accumulated on the streets and sidewalks during last night’s storm.
Charleston Fire Department: The Fire Department’s water response teams responded to multiple calls for assistance during the storm and utilized their high water vehicle to help move pedestrians out of flooded parts of downtown.
Charleston Police Department: CPD worked to barricade flooded streets during the storm and is working this morning to clear remaining closures as standing water recedes.
