Press Release

Social Studies, the pioneer transforming “the business of gathering” with rentable entertaining kits and more, and Rent the Runway, the company transforming how women get dressed through clothing and accessory rentals from 700+ designer partners, will join forces this summer on a road trip to cities across the U.S. The companies have transformed a Texino van into a limited-edition roving entertaining experience that will be driven cross-country by Social Studies co-founder and CEO Jessica Latham. Latham will be hitting the road as part of the Social Studies “After” Party Tour to help Americans start entertaining again.

The pop-ups will feature Rent the Runway inventory that can be reserved for upcoming celebrations and pre-curated rentable entertaining kits from Social Studies. Visitors will have access to special discounts and can nominate individuals in their lives who have been hard-hit by the pandemic to win an entertaining kit from Social Studies.

Each stop will showcase a unique theme and corresponding inventory from Social Studies and Rent the Runway, including:

  • Nantucket, Massachusetts – July 10 – 80’s Prep
  • Charleston, South Carolina – July 15 – Return to Glamour
    • Coastal Crust in Mount Pleasant from 11 am to 3 pm
  • Nashville, Tennessee – July 31 – 70’s Cowgirl
  • The Hamptons, New York – August 7 – Bohemian Beach
  • Austin, Texas – September 18 – Dazed and Confused

Social Studies enables customers to rent and return everything needed to throw a beautiful party, from place settings to decor, similar to renting designer apparel from Rent the Runway. Both Social Studies and Rent the Runway offer a seamless, digital rental experience so that customers can spend more time celebrating with their loved ones and less time on logistics like dry-cleaning and dishwashing. The brands also offer a broad range of styles to match any occasion, from a formal wedding to everyday gatherings at home.

“After a year of limited gathering, we are ready to help everyone entertain in person again with ease and in style. We are thrilled to partner with Rent the Runway, a company that has proven that consumers value access and variety over ownership in their shopping experiences,” said Social Studies co-founder and CEO Jessica Latham.

“It’s only fitting to kick off summer 2021 by celebrating our ability to gather together again,” said Rent the Runway SVP, Brand & Customer Strategy, Angie Hellman. “This partnership truly embodies the collective joy and freedom as we get back to celebrating life on our own terms. Social Studies’ turnkey event rentals are the perfect complement to Rent the Runway’s Closet in the Cloud during this time when consumers are craving experiences more than ever.”

The companies will also be hosting themed invitation-only dinners in each market to celebrate the partnership.
