Bree’s Canvasworks, a custom marine canvas and cushion shop on Johns Island, is about to celebrate their one-year anniversary. Charleston residents James and Mary Beaulieu opened the shop on August 1, 2020.

The store specializes in custom fabricated canvas projects, from replacement cushion packages to covers and enclosures for both sailboats and powerboats.

“We’re grateful for the support of Johns Island and Charleston’s boating community over the past year,” James Beaulieu said. “We’ve felt welcomed and they’ve been keeping us very busy.”

James is a long-time sailor, who grew up with a variety of sailboats on Lake Champlain in Vermont, from a 19-foot Corinthian to the Pearson 424 on which he and his wife now live full time on Johns Island. Previously, he worked for Coastal Cushion and Canvas in Mt. Pleasant. Prior to relocating here in 2015, he designed several still-thriving disc golf courses around the Lake Sunapee region of New Hampshire.

Meanwhile, Mary was a performing arts administrator in New England and a professional modern dancer. She gets her performing fix these days by working as an extra for The Righteous Gemstones as often as she can.

Bree’s Canvasworks is located at 2052 River Rd, Suite B. You can learn more about Bree’s Canvasworks at breescanvasworks.com and by texting or calling 843-810-3703.
