Nonprofit Distributing Food to Community Members in Need
Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach (OLMCOS), in partnership with the Kiawah Island Club, will hold a free food and dental kit distribution on Saturday, August 7th, between 9 am to 11 am at 1684 Brownswood Road. Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach provides basic and emergency resources, health, job assistance, and education programs to those living in communities spanning Downtown Charleston to Edisto Island.
The Saturday distribution will be a drive-thru model to keep staff and patrons safe and is open to anyone who is in need of food or dental supplies. A Saturday was chosen to fill the gap of those community members who need assistance, but can’t receive it during Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach’s regular business hours.
Food and dental kits will be provided to individuals and families on a first-come, first-served basis. Kiawah Island Club has generously partnered with Our lady of Mercy Community Outreach to collect food from its members in preparation for the event and provide volunteers the day of distribution.
This is the third distribution event for the organization, and the organization will continue to run distribution events as the needs continue to rise.
The community can help make the food and dental distribution a success by:
Donating shelf-stable food and dental supplies to help families prepare for longer term impact. Donations can be brought to the Johns Island location at 1684 Brownswood Rd. between 8:30 am – 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday.

“COVID-19 created uncertainties and challenges for all of us, and changed lives personally and professionally. With lost wages and eviction notices still prominent, our community members should not be worrying about where their next meal is coming from. OLMCOS will remain mindful of the needs of our community and continue to be an important safety net for our neighbors most in need,” says Ericka Plater, executive director of Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach.
