Building Badasses Launches Construction 101 Crash Course to “Empower Female Homeowners Planning Construction Projects”
Building Badasses, a local support circle for women in the building industry, focused on educating and empowering women to find their voices in all aspects of construction, announced the launch of their Construction 101 Crash Course, a new in-person or remote seminar serving female homeowners. The course is a 4-hour intensive capped at 10 participants, offered monthly throughout the fall. This in-person event aims to provide an efficient way for local female homeowners to learn the ins and outs of the construction industry to become educated and empowered to confidently pursue their upcoming renovation or new construction project in the changing COVID-impacted building landscape.
“Never before have women owned and maintained property as we have the opportunity to in this generation, but we aren’t culturally conditioned to know how to interact with the construction industry,” said Emily Cox, leader of Building Badasses. “Over and over, I see female clients nodding along at a table full of men, only to pull me aside later and remark, ‘I’m embarrassed, but I don’t understand what the contractor just said.”
Features of the 4-hour seminar include:
introduction to the members of a typical design/construction team and explanation of their roles
introduction to interview process for design/construction team members
templates for introductory emails for all members
templates for interview questions for all members
introduction to construction contracts
recommendations on contract structure for all team members
instruction in how to read architectural drawings
introduction to construction communication best practices
tech stack for project tracking
