Congresswoman Nancy Mace (SC-01) on Thursday released a joint statement with Rep. Charlie Crist (FL-13) following the announcement that Jamie Spears will step down as conservator over Britney Spears’ estate.

“It’s clear the mounting public pressure from countless human rights organizations and Britney supporters fighting to #FreeBritney caused Jamie Spears to step down,” Rep. Mace said. “I am heartened to hear the good news and want to thank Rep. Crist for working with me on the FREE Act. I work to be a voice for the voiceless and am glad to shine a light on this important issue in hopes of saving vulnerable persons throughout our country.”

“This is a very positive development in Britney Spears’ fight for her freedom – but sadly there are thousands more trapped in abusive guardianships,” Rep. Crist said. “We must redouble our efforts to provide them a pathway to freedom by making the FREE Act law”.
