Charleston County Republican Party to Host “9/11 Heroes Dinner” with Keynote Speaker Captain John E. Cameron

The Charleston County Republican Party has announced a “9/11 Heroes Dinner” taking place  September 11th, 2021 at the Cruise Terminal in downtown Charleston (196 Concord Street). It is a memorial salute to our heroes who served our nation when we were attacked.

The keynote speaker is Captain John E. Cameron, US Coast Guard, Retired. Captain Cameron was assigned to the Port of New York on 9/11 and worked closely with New York mayor Rudy Giuliani on security for the port. He was instrumental in the organization of the 9/11 Boatlift. Nearly 500,000 civilians were evacuated by boat from Manhattan in less than 9 hours after the Twin Towers were destroyed.

At the time of the 9/11 attack, all methods of transportation out of Manhattan were shut down. The only way in and the only way out was by water. The US Coast Guard sent word asking for private and corporate owners of boats to ferry stranded civilians off Manhattan. What resulted was the largest grouping of watercraft ever seen in New York history and the largest sea evacuation in history.

In addition, the Charleston County Republican Party has invited four individuals who worked at Ground Zero in different capacities, to tell their story.

Tickets to the event can be purchased at charlestonrepublicans.com.  A portion of our proceeds will go to firehouse.com and Tricounty Veterans Support Network.
