RiverDogs to Host Series of Events in Remembrance of 9/11

The Charleston RiverDogs will host a series of events in remembrance of September 11th, 2001.

Schedule of events:
  • Climb to Remember
    • Saturday, September 11th from 7:30 am to 11 am at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park
    • The United States Coast Guard will host a memorial stair climb in partnership with the Charleston RiverDogs and local police and fire departments.
    • Attendees will climb the equivalent of 110 stories on the steps of The Joe’s seating bowl to honor the emergency workers that gave their lives on 9/11. A ringing of the bell will be followed by a moment of silence at the time of each impactful moment from that day twenty years ago
    • The event’s keynote speaker is Frank Hauber who was an FDNY fireman in 2001. He is the father of BM3 Frank Hauber who is currently a coxswain at Station Charleston
    • The event is free, however participants must register in advance here.
  • Patriot Day Game
    • Saturday, September 11th beginning at 5:30 pm at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park
    • The RiverDogs will host a special pre-game ceremony on the field prior to the game against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans
    • Senator Tim Scott, Senior Director, Boeing National Strategy and Engagement Lindsay Leonard, Chief Daniel Curia of the Charleston Fire Department, Chief Luther Reynolds of the Charleston Police Department and Captain Tian Griffieth of the North Charleston Fire Department
    • Captain Justin Cherry and Technical Sergeant Sam Weaver of Joint Base Charleston’s 437th Airlift Wing who played a key role in flying the last soldiers out of Kabul will be present to represent all military members who responded to the attack on 9/11
    • In addition, several New York first responders who were called to action at the time of the 9/11 attacks will be in attendance to be honored. Attendees include NYPD officers Tim O’Flaherty and Thomas Cirincione, officer Denis Fitzpatrick of the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, lieutenant Kevin Cunnane of FDNY and NYPD and Battalion Chief Kevin McNamara who was a firefighter with Engine Company 250 in 2001
    • Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the RiverDogs will hold a special pre-game ceremony on the field in recognition of first responders. Senator Tim Scott will throw out a ceremonial first pitch and then be joined on the field by several local first responders and first responders from New York who responded to the site of the attacks on September 11, 2001.
    • Motorcycles driven by veterans who participated in the 9/11 Silent Walk earlier in the day at the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge will be on display near the front gates
    • Following the game, the stadium lights will flood the field in red, white and blue for the remainder of the night.

About the RiverDogs

Playoff tickets for the Low-A East Championship Series in September are on sale now at riverdogs.com.  For a limited time, fans who purchase tickets to the team’s first home playoff game will receive all subsequent home games for free. The RiverDogs first home game during the championship series will be on Friday, September 24 featuring post-game fireworks. Purchase playoff tickets here to join Budweiser and Nucor Steel in supporting the RiverDogs postseason run.

All RiverDogs tickets for the 2021 season are available for purchase online and will be delivered digitally. Once purchased, tickets can be printed at home or scanned on a phone. In addition to tickets, the entire RiverDogs gameday experience will be cashless including parking, the team store and concessions. Fans who do not have credit or debit cards will be able to use cash to purchase gift cards at Fan Services on gamedays. Masks are no longer required, but suggested for non-vaccinated guests. The RiverDogs also have a no bag policy, with the exception of medical bags, diaper bags, and clutch-style purses no larger than 6.5in x 4.5in.
