WCSC-TV Chief Meteorologist Bill Walsh Inducted into The Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences

WCSC-TV Chief Meteorologist Bill Walsh has been inducted into the 2020-21 Silver Circle of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Southeast Chapter. The Silver Circle is an honor society representing news and television professionals with 25 years or more of experience leading and contributing to their communities.  

Walsh has served the Charleston media market for more than 34 years. He began his career in the  Lowcountry at WCIV-TV in 1989 where he was instrumental in keeping Lowcountry families safe from the impacts of Hurricane Hugo. In 1993, he moved to WCSC-TV where he has remained for 28 years.

During his tenure, he has guided the Lowcountry through hurricanes, tornadoes, a thousand-year flood, and even snowstorms. His awards include 2 Emmys and Associated Press Best Weathercaster.

“Bill is trusted and beloved by the people he serves.” said WCSC-TV Vice President and General Manager Dan Cates. “We are fortunate to have someone with so much experience and dedication to the  community leading our weather team. His induction to the Silver Circle is another mark of distinction for  this Lowcountry legend.”

Walsh is an active supporter of education, teaching weather to local school children. He is on the board of the Ronald McDonald House and champions other charities including One80 Place for the homeless and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America where he has mentored for 30 years. He also served 23 years in the U.S Air Force Reserve and United States Special Operations Command, earning numerous decorations.

Walsh started his career as a meteorologist at Rollins New England Cable and then at WLNE TV6 in Providence, Rhode Island. He has been awarded the American Meteorological Society Certification and Seal of Approval and National Weather Association Certification and Seal of Approval.

Inductees to NATAS Southeast Silver Circle were nominated by their peers from across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and Asheville, North Carolina. The induction ceremony took place on Friday, September 10th, 2021, in Atlanta, Georgia.
