Press Release

Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center, the region’s leading resource to prevent abuse, protect children and heal families, was awarded $1,994,368 from the National Child Traumatic Stress Network/Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (NCTSN-SAMHSA). To be implemented over the next five years, the grant will assist Dee Norton’s continued expansion of high-quality, evidence-based services and consultation work from therapy developers and international experts in child maltreatment.

“We are honored to receive this generous support from such a prestigious and exclusive network consisting of the top child trauma experts in the country,” said Beverly Hutchison, Executive Director of Dee Norton Child Advocacy Center. “With this grant, we are continuing and expanding our CATALYST project that focuses on increasing access to effective trauma treatments.”

The organization’s venture funded by the grant, the Championing Access to Trauma-informed-treatments to Achieve Lowcountry Youth Services Transformation (CATALYST) project, aims to increase access to evidence-based treatments with particular attention to racial minorities and LGBTQI youth. The project will also form a team to shape best practices for applying equity, diversity and inclusion principles to evidence-based services for child abuse victims.

SAMHSA’s National Child Traumatic Stress Network improves treatment and services for children, adolescents, and families who have experienced traumatic events. The NCTSN was established in 2000 by Congress as part of the Children’s Health Act to raise the standard of care and increase access to services for children and families who experience or witness traumatic events.
