Press Release

The local affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for the Charleston area has formally announced that Charleston County Councilwoman Jenny Costa Honeycutt, Esq. will serve as Honorary Chair for the organization’s annual fundraiser and walk.

“Councilwoman Honeycutt’s support of mental health initiatives in the community make her the perfect leader for this year’s walk,” said Malinda Terry, NAMI Vice President of the Board of Directors and Charleston County employee.

Upon accepting the organization’s request, Councilwoman Honeycutt provided the following comment:

“NAMI Charleston is a beacon of hope in our community which I am proud to support. Their free education and outreach programs provide essential resources to many of our friends, neighbors and even our own families. I am grateful for this honor and look forward to (virtually) joining millions across the Country in a National Day of Unity on October 9th. To those who have a loved one with a mental health condition or if you yourself are struggling, know that you are not alone. Please reach out to the 24/7 South Carolina Community Crisis Intervention Line at (833) 364-2274.”

NAMI Charleston is also pleased to announce that Mrs. Rebecca Knox, Director of Marketing for one of their sponsors, Home Team BBQ, will serve as this year’s Corporate Chair.

“Rebecca has been an outstanding partner in sharing our information, supporting our activities, and helping to plan our outreach,” said Laura Evans, NAMI Walks 2021 Chairperson and Board Member. “That, coupled with her gracious attitude and the outstanding organization she works for, make her another perfect fit for this honor.”

Upon accepting the organization’s request, Knox provided the following comment:

“We at Home Team BBQ are so happy to support the work that NAMI Charleston Area does for our community. It’s an honor to serve as Corporate Chair of this year’s Walk, which serves as its largest fundraiser for the programs they offer. If we can work together to end the stigma surrounding mental health conditions and support those impacted by mental illness in our community, we will get through anything.”
