The GCM Dinner Club, a new, exclusive series launched in Charleston with its inaugural event on Wednesday, September 15th, 2021. GCM welcomed Former Congressman and South Carolina Gubernatorial Candidate Joe Cunningham as its guest of honor for the inaugural event. All proceeds from the event are being donated to Charleston nonprofit Going Places.

The GCM Dinner Club series brings together Charleston’s most influential and dedicated business and community leaders to connect on a human level and support causes in the Lowcountry. The first event was held in a private room at the famous Edmund’s Oast Restaurant in downtown Charleston. Proceeds from the event of approximately $2,500 will be donated to Going Places.

At the event, Joe Cunningham spoke with each guest individually, taking time to answer questions and give advice. He laid out his plans to expand Medicaid, give South Carolina teachers a raise, make South Carolina a leader on voting rights, legalize marijuana and fix the state’s roads.

“I was honored to be the inaugural guest for the GCM Dinner Club and I am especially grateful for organizations such as Going Places that provide much-needed resources for local children,” said Cunningham.

At the inaugural event, some of Charleston’s most influential business and community leaders were in attendance. The event was limited to 10 people to ensure each person had an opportunity to spend quality time with Joe Cunningham and the other guests. Those in attendance included leaders from First National Bank, Giglio Communications & Marketing, Lowcountry Local First, IBM, Rev Federal Credit Union, Sweetgrass Capital, Tricounty Therapy and Trophy Inc.

“I cannot thank Joe Cunningham enough for giving so much of his time and energy to this event and good cause. Joe truly is one of the most dedicated community leaders we have in the Lowcountry,” said GCM CEO Zach Giglio. “We are proud to have organized this event and are excited about the impact we can make with the GCM Dinner Club series.”

Going Places provides disadvantaged children with custom bikes. These custom bikes are a critical part of a child’s social emotional health as they provide a sense of freedom and escape from an often unpredictable home life, ownership over something of value and restored innocence when often that has been taken. Going Places doesn’t just provide individual children with bikes, but actually donates bikes to entire low income elementary schools at once – this is 400-600 bikes. “The GCM Dinner Club series is a fantastic way to bring the top leaders in Charleston together for an intimate event, and we are so honored to be the beneficiary. The caliber of people that attended along with Joe Cunningham blew us away,” said Going Places Executive Director Katie Blomquist. “The dinner was such a fun, meaningful way to spend one-on-one time with Joe Cunningham and each other. We can’t wait for the next event!”

The time, location and guest of honor for the next GCM Dinner Club event will be announced in the coming weeks. Community and business leaders interested in attending can contact GCM at hello@whoisgcm.com.
