The Charleston Forum to Host Webinar on Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Equity
On Wednesday, October 6th, The Charleston Forum will host a webinar on law enforcement and criminal justice equity. The event will discuss race and systemic inequity addressing perceptions, challenges and opportunities for action.
Starting at 11:30 am, host Kristy Danford, Project Director of the Charleston County Criminal Justice Council and moderator Carolyn Murray of News 2 will be joined by a group of panelists to discuss community expectations and transformations needed in South Carolina’s criminal justice system.
The conversation will include newly released community survey data that shines light on specific challenges in local systems. Respondents were asked about specific needs and strategies for action. Topics include accountability, policing, pretrial justice, criminal justice, coordinating councils, punishment and rehabilitation.

- Gary Raney, President of GAR, Inc.
- Jerry Blassingame, Founder and CEO of Soteria Community Development Corporation
- Laurie Garduque, Criminal Justice Director, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation

About the Moderator
Long time journalist and co-anchor, Carolyn Murray began her journalism career in Charleston in 1988 as a radio broadcast news and public affairs director. She is currently news director and co-anchor at Lowcountry CW Network. An effective and empathetic storyteller, Carolyn has interviewed leaders, entertainers and athletes of local, national and international renown including U.S. President Bill Clinton. Carolyn serves on numerous boards including The International African American Museum and The City of Charleston Health and Wellness Committee.
