CCPL, Charleston County BEVR Partner to Increase Voter Engagement

Charleston County Public Library (CCPL) has partnered with the Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration (BEVR) to help more members of the community register to vote.  

“The right to vote is a key part of our society, but lack of access to voting information and services can have a negative impact on this vital process,” said CCPL Executive Director Angela Craig. “Libraries are safe, convenient, and accessible community hubs, so this partnership was a natural fit. We’re excited to work with BEVR for this worthy cause.”

In addition to conducting all county, state, and federal elections held in Charleston County, the BEVR works to promote voter registration and education in the area.

“CCPL has been a leader in our community, especially in terms of making voting and the process of registering to vote accessible to all our citizens,” said BEVR Executive Director Isaac Cramer. “Our partnership is expanding, and I am grateful for the opportunities to utilize our libraries in the community.”

Through this partnership, voter registration forms are now available at every library location throughout the County (for a full list of locations, visit ccpl.org/branches). Additionally, secure boxes for voter registration forms managed by BEVR are accessible at seven branches: Baxter-Patrick James Island, Edisto Island, Bees Ferry West Ashley, McClellanville, Main, John L. Dart, and Otranto Road. Completed voter registration forms can be safely and securely returned to any of these boxes.

As September is National Voter Registration Month, several library branches are also hosting events to encourage voter engagement. During select dates in September, the League of Women Voters will be stationed inside several library locations to help the community register to vote. Also, BEVR’s mobile satellite voting unit will be stopping at various libraries through October 1st. Remaining dates and locations include:

• Sept. 24 at the Main Library (time TBD, please visit www.ccpl.org for time)
• Sept. 27 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Wando Mount Pleasant Library
• Sept. 27 from 12 – 2 p.m. at the John’s Island Library
• Sept. 28 from 1-3 p.m. at the West Ashley Library

BEVR Mobile Voting Unit – 10 am to 2 pm

• Sept. 23 at the Bees Ferry West Ashley Library
• Sept 24 at the John’s Island Library
• Sept. 29 at the Wando Mount Pleasant Library
• Sept. 30 at the St. Paul’s Hollywood Library
• Oct. 1 at the Baxter-Patrick James Island Library
