Taylor Festival Choir and Na Fidleiri Re-Imagined Present “Pathways to Healing,” A Choral Concert Focused on Healing and the Arts

The Taylor Music Group opens its 20th Anniversary Season with “Pathways to Healing,” a concert featuring the Taylor Festival Choir (TFC), led by Founding Director Robert Taylor, and Na Fidleiri Re-Imagined, a professional Celtic/classical instrumental ensemble featuring Mary Taylor, the Taylor Music Group’s Co-Founding Director, and leader of Na Fidleiri Re-Imagined. The ticketed concert will take place on Sunday, October 24th at 4 pm at Second Presbyterian Church, 342 Meeting Street in downtown Charleston. The concert will be preceded by a panel discussion beginning at 3 pm, featuring leading physicians, clergy and artists considering the role of beautiful music in healing the human body, mind and spirit.

Pathways to Healing is a concept concert featuring musical repertoire that focuses on healing of all kinds—physical, emotional, and spiritual. It serves as the springboard event of the Taylor Music Group’s ongoing “Pathways to Healing” initiative, an initiative that will feature multiple projects aimed at using the power of music to foster healing and well-being.

Specific selections in the concert will include Among Angels by well-known British composer Will Todd, On Meditation by TFC Composer-in-Residence Brian Galante, Meditation from Thaïs by Massenet and Light of a Clear Blue Morning—a choral arrangement of the Dolly Parton classic.

“The world is in dire need of healing,” stated Rob Taylor, “and this concert is our way of bringing healing energy to our audience, as well as to ourselves, through the medium of great music. We are excited to have the opportunity to make music together again after an 18-month hiatus and are also excited to be able to celebrate the 20th year anniversary of a choir and organization that honors my deceased parents and their legacy in music education.”

Safety protocols in place for COVID-19 include masks worn by all performers, staff and audience members, and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test submitted within 72 hours prior to the concert for anyone in attendance. The Taylor Festival Choir (TFC) is a professional chamber choir based in Charleston, SC whose roster includes professional musicians from across the United States. Founded and conducted by Rob Taylor, TFC is named after and inspired by the life and careers of Rob’s parents Bob and Cornelia Taylor, noted choral educators in their home state of Arkansas. Since its inception in 2001, the TFC has toured and been heard in prestigious venues and festivals throughout the U.S. and has garnered a reputation of excellence among critics and choral specialists alike.

The TFC has recorded on the Delos, Centaur, and MSR Classics labels. Their most recent recording So Hallow’d the Time was considered for Grammy awards in multiple categories. TFC serves as the professional choir-in-residence at the College of Charleston. The Taylor Festival Choir performs the finest choral literature from all eras, with particular emphasis on new music and folk music from the Celtic nations. Dedicated to bringing the beauty and spiritual enrichment of choral music to as wide an audience as possible, the Taylor Festival Choir tours frequently, and performs outreach concerts in schools and churches throughout South Carolina and surrounding states.

Na Fidleiri Re-Imagined is a new professional Celtic/classical instrumental ensemble. Founded and led by Mary Taylor which takes its inspiration from its predecessor Na Fidleiri, which regaled South Carolina audiences for twenty-plus years. Na Fidleiri Re-Imagined performs music from the Celtic folk idiom, classical repertoire, and music from the early music tradition. In addition to performances, Na Fidleiri Re-Imagined is the centerpiece ensemble for the Taylor Music Group’s “Pathways to Healing Initiative.”
