PBS Personality Darley Newman Visiting Lowcountry to Film Episode of “Travels with Darley”
Television host and executive producer Darley Newman, who grew up in Myrtle Beach, is back in the state filming South Carolina history and culture as part of her Emmy Award-nominated series, Travels with Darley. The episode will take viewers along The Liberty Trail, which charts significant Revolutionary War sites throughout the state.
Travels with Darley has been on PBS stations since 2016 and broadcasts on South Carolina ETV (SCETV) Wednesdays at 7:30 pm and other times on secondary channels. Representing Newman’s third trip to South Carolina for the series, this film shoot is for an episode that will be part of the series’ new season debuting in January 2022.
Newman and her crew will be following The Liberty Trail and connecting with South Carolina experts along the route to help viewers step back in time and imagine what life was like during the American Revolution, learning history in an interactive way. She will also highlight great area food and heritage.
The upcoming season also includes episodes from Alabama’s Civil Rights Trail, Wisconsin’s Northwoods, Colorado Forests & Ranches and New York’s Empire State Trail. In addition to viewing on SCETV, past episodes can be seen on Create TV, Amazon Prime, Ovation TV’s Journy, Wondrium and more.
In 2020, Newman received an Emmy Award-nomination for directing the series, along with longtime photographer Greg Barna. Viewers who wish to connect with Newman can do so in real time on social media, as she posts from the filming on Instagram, Twitter, TikTok and LinkedIn @DarleyNewman and Facebook @TravelswithDarley.
