The Avondale 5k Run & Walk Returns for Its 12th Year
The Avondale 5K Run + Walk for Special Kids is back for its 12th annual race. This year’s race will be held on Saturday, October 9th and benefits the Charles Webb Center. Strollers and dogs are welcome.
Starting on Tall Oak Drive near Triangle Char and Bar (828 Savannah Highway), Avondale 5K runners and walkers will make their way through the neighborhood and onto the new bike path in West Ashley. The After Race Party starts as soon as participants cross the finish line. Triangle Char and Bar is hosting the party complete with music and all-inclusive food and drinks. Awards and prizes will be given at the After Party.
All proceeds from the Avondale 5K directly benefit the Charles Webb Center, a non-profit, day care center that serves children from age 6 weeks to 10 years old who have developmental disabilities and special needs. The Center is under the umbrella of the Disabilities Foundation of Charleston County, and is located at 1611 Evergreen Street, right off of Savannah Highway. To learn more about CWC, visit www.charleswebbcenter.com.
Runners and walkers have the option to create and name their own teams in an additional effort to raise funds. For the team with the highest amount of money raised, Triangle will throw a private party for 25 people complete with drinks and food!
The top winner will have the honor of their name being engraved on the prestigious “Stevie Award,”named after the late Stephen Condon in whose memory the race was founded. All attendees and participants are asked to please park in designated parking spaces and NOT on the race course.
