City of Charleston Department of Housing and Community Development Announces Funding Opportunities

Applications are now open for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Office of Community Planning and Development, Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), Home Investment Partnerships Program (HOME), and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) funds for the 2022-2023 program year.

Organizations may apply for funding from one or all of the programs based on the purposes, outcomes and objectives of the proposed projects.  Awards can be used to support programs that accomplish the goals and objectives outlined in the city’s 2020-2025 Consolidated Plan.

Background: The city anticipates that it will receive approximately $870,000 in CDBG funds, $545,600 in HOME funds and $917,200 in HOPWA funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which will become available to organizations implementing programs that support low and moderate income persons and communities.  This funding will cover the program year, which begins June 1, 2022 and runs through May 31, 2023. Please note that program requests for CDBG or HOME funds should not exceed $50,000.

Prior to completing the necessary paperwork, organizations should carefully review the application guidelines found within each document and confirm that their proposed project meets the necessary requirements.

Once completed, applications can be submitted to the city of Charleston Department of Housing and Community Development, located at 75 Calhoun Street, Suite 3200. In order to be considered, applications must arrive on or before 4 p.m. on January 13, 2022.
