The College of Charleston Department of Athletics has announced plans to pursue funding to make state-of-the-art improvements to the Patriots Point Athletics Complex. Director of Athletics Matt Roberts informed the College’s Board of trustees about the multimillion-dollar capital project during a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021.

The estimated $14 million project, designed in coordination with McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture firm, seeks to equip the CofC baseball and tennis programs with the facilities necessary to remain competitive both within the Colonial Athletic Association and the national landscape.

“Since 2001, the Patriots Point Athletic Complex has served as the home for hundreds of CofC student-athletes competing in the sports of baseball, soccer, softball and tennis,” Roberts said. “We are thrilled to launch a capital campaign that will address our facilities needs and elevate the student-athlete experience for many years to come.”

Among the many proposed improvements to the Patriots Point complex are a state-of-the-art baseball fieldhouse adjacent to the field with:

  • A team meeting and video room with cutting-edge training technology
  • Spacious locker room with lockers for 45 players
  • Remote athletic training facility with hydrotherapy area
  • Outdoor patio and club room for donors and VIP guests
  • Coaches’ offices

Several significant improvements are scheduled to the existing tennis facility as well, most notably:

  • A clubhouse terrace with retractable canopy
  • Back porch with outdoor kitchen and fire pit
  • Lounge area with views of all courts
  • Remote athletic training facility
  • Resurfacing of all nine courts
  • Installation of cabanas on the singles side
  • Court-level storage building

All persons interested in donating to the project or learning more about the initiative are encouraged to contact the Charleston Athletic Fund by phone at 843.953.8255 or by email at athleticfund@cofc.edu.
