Charleston County Sheriff Graziano Appointed to FirstNet Board
The U.S. Department of Commerce today announced that Charleston County Sheriff Kristin Graziano is one of seven newly appointed board members for the First Responder Network (FirstNet) Authority.
The FirstNet Board has 12 non-permanent members selected by the Commerce Department and three permanent seats occupied by the U.S. attorney general, the secretary of Homeland Security, and the director of the Office of Management and Budget. It oversees activities to ensure that the FirstNet Authority and commercial partner AT&T develop, build, and operate a nationwide broadband network that will best equip first responders to save lives and protect U.S. communities. The wireless network is dedicated to public safety personnel for day-to-day operations, disaster response and recovery, and securing of large events.
“I am honored to be selected to serve my country by sitting on the FirstNet Authority Board,” Sheriff Graziano said. “This is an exciting opportunity not only for myself, but also for the Lowcountry and the state of South Carolina. I’m looking forward to my orientation next month in D.C. and getting started.”
Sheriff Graziano will serve a three-year term, ending in September 2024.
