Great Tasting Burgers & Exceptional Customer Service Set Matt’s Apart

By: Jeff Walker, Business Review

While Summerville may be known for it’s annual Flowertown Festival and as the Sweet Tea capitol of South Carolina, when it comes to unique great tasting burgers, locals know Matt’s Burgers is the place to be. Owned and operated by husband and wife team of Matt and Sue Ticer, both Tulsa Oklahoma natives, Matt’s Burgers has become a fixture in beautiful downtown Summerville since relocating to 102 S. Cedar Street more than a decade ago.

After running similar eateries from 1997-2005 on Dorchester Road in North Charleston, and on Old Trolley Road near Oakbrook, the couple took a few years off to regroup. Apparently beef and the food & drink industry are in their DNA, and much to the delight of thousands of regular customers, Matt’s Burgers re-opened in 2009 near the railroad tracks at the intersection of Doty Avenue. And much like their former locations the reviews are nothing but glowing.

If you haven’t eaten at Matt’s Burgers then you’re missing out on one of the most pleasurable taste sensations that exist in the low country. Their menu is a shrine to the classic foods we’ve all come to appreciate growing up. Some of the best burgers you’ll ever wrap your teeth around, alongside some pretty unique side items that will further excite your hunger sensation.

If you’re not feeling at all adventurous, stick with their signature quarter pound cheeseburger. It is sure to please the meat lover in you. A juicy 100% ground beef masterpiece smothered in American cheese, with a full array of your favorite garden veggies (pickles, onions, lettuce & tomato) on top. A picnic cookout staple without all the hassle. Trust me it’s incredible. We’re talking miles apart from your standard run of the mill fast food burger chains. Easily worth $4.99, or get the 1/3 pounder for a dollar more.

At just $6.99 the Chili Cheeseburger is another staple at Matt’s. Smothered in 8 Ounces of lick your lips homemade chili, and topped with American and hot pepper cheese, this cornucopia of tastes comes dressed with mustard, pickles, and fried onions. Go all out and add a side of Chili Cheese Fries ($3.49), and you’re assured a leaving full with a smile on your face.

Speaking of chili, lets not forget this heartwarming everyday classic sensation. Just another one of Matt’s signature home made dishes. With or without beans and onions, just $4.25 for a 8 ounce bowl. It’s delicioso, that’s southwestern lingo for mouthwatering. Nathan’s all beef hotdogs, just like you get at the ball park, with chips or fries just $4.99.

Perhaps the most popular selling burger on Matt’s menu list is the Sausage Burger, served plain or with a variety of flavored cheese slices. As the name implies it is the perfect marriage of ground pork sausage and beef. Satisfying two meat cravings in the same hot and juicy sandwich order is unheard of, unless your dining at Matt’s Burgers. An ideal combination of the South’s two favorite meats. Savor the taste as the juices gently ooze down your chin. A definite three napkin burger.

Not a card carrying USDA beef lover, then you might want to sink your teeth into any of the many grilled chicken sandwiches, grilled cheese, salads. First time visitors might want to order another Matt’s staple, the Spanish Fries. Perfectly seasoned with fried onions and jalapenos. A great way to arouse your lunch time taste buds. The ideal complement to the Bacon Cheeseburger or the Matt’s Mushroom Melt.

Matt’s has something for everyone in your party including hamburger steaks, Patty Melts, Frito Pie, Polish sausage, and quesadillas. Kid’s meals (burgers, chicken tenders) starting at just $3.99. Cheeseburgers starting at just $4.49. A variety of Coke products, lemonade and ice tea for the southern folks. If you’re going all out and why wouldn’t you, then try the root beer float or a made from scratch milkshake.

Matt’s Burgers is a bit of a throw back and perfectly suited for Summerville. The wall art reflects a simpler time when families visited road side diners and enjoyed great burgers. Dine in their back room and add your family friendly comments to the graffiti wall. There you’ll discover Jarrett says ‘you guys rock’ and Ainsley thinks the fries are ‘Ahh-mazing’. They’re both right. Matt’s is nothing short of heavenly. If variety is the spice of life, than Matt’s has a full array of seasonings to satisfy everyone in your party!

Matt’s Burgers is not just a Summerville classic, it’s an American classic. While chain steakhouses charge twice as much, and the everyday, humdrum chain burger restaurants serve up bland products with little taste, Matt’s have set themselves apart. They have gained a following and a reputation based on two food & beverage must haves. First and most importantly they serve up awesome tasting food, and secondly they do it by providing the best customer service patrons could imagine.
