Press Release

PURE Theatre today announced the Southeast Regional Premiere of Little Gem by Elaine Murphy. The production will run for 4 weeks and 16 performances, November 26th through December 18th at Cannon Street Arts Center where PURE Theatre is in residence.

One year can bring extraordinary change. Just ask Amber, Lorraine, and Kay, three generations of North Dublin women who find themselves suddenly facing the unexpected. Young Amber, played by Gibson Carter, deals with a hangover that turns into something more, while her middle-aged mother Lorraine, played by PURE Core Ensemble member Camille Lowman, works to bring self-care into her otherwise quiet life. Grandmother Kay, played by Lynda Harvey, struggles to take care of a personal itch while adjusting to life as a caretaker for her beloved husband, Gem. As the year moves forward, the women confront their individual challenges with courage and humor, finding strength in one another and discovering the beauty and complexity of family.

Little Gem, by Irish-born playwright Elaine Murphy, won the Fishamble New Writing Award in 2008 and the Carol Tambor Best of Edinburgh Award in 2009. The PURE creative team includes Core Ensemble member Cristy Landis as director, Richard Heffner as scenic and lighting designer, Core Ensemble member Mark Landis as sound designer, Dallas Corbett as stage manager, Savannah Fatigante as costume designer, and Bryn Landis as assistant stage manager.

“This delightful play delves into the beautiful facets that make each of us a unique, luminescent presence in the lives of others” shares Landis. “Interweaving the strengths, foibles and vibrant idiosyncrasies of three Irish women at various stages of life, this play will touch your heart and bring a smile to your soul.”

The show will run November 26 through December 18 at 7:30 p.m. with a Saturday matinee on December 11 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets range from $28-$40 per person. There will be one “Pay What You Will” performance on December 1, with a limited number of presale tickets available now for $25. $15 student rush tickets and discounted group tickets are available through the box office. The show is also available through the PURE All-Access Flex Pass.

Additional information about Little Gem and the PURE All-Access Flex Pass can be found on PURE’s website at puretheatre.org, or by calling the box office at 843-723-4444 (Tuesday through Friday 12-6 pm).
