Historic Charleston Foundation Presents “Illumination Charleston” Weekend in December
Historic Charleston Foundation this week announced the first-ever Illumination Charleston weekend, created in collaboration with Explore Charleston and Southern Living. Illumination Charleston will take place from December 2nd to 5th and feature a series of events to celebrate preservation, inspiration, and contemporary design and style while honoring Charleston’s historic spaces.
The weekend kicks off with a special opening night party at the Aiken-Rhett House Museum, benefiting the Foundation. Attendees will be the first to view design vignettes created specifically for Illumination Charleston by designers Cloth & Kind, Tammy Connor, Jane Scott Hodges, Jenny Keenan, Amanda Lindroth, Canaan Marshall, Sarah Hamlin-Hastings, and Jason Reeves. These unique vignettes are available to view throughout the weekend by visiting the Aiken-Rhett House Museum at 48 Elizabeth Street.
Additionally, the Historic Charleston Foundation will host a Design in Mind speaker series at the historic Second Presbyterian Church with notable design and architecture experts including Alessandra Branca, India Hicks, and Ashley Whittaker. A panel discussion narrated by Southern Living Editor-in-Chief, Sid Evans, featuring designers Betsy Berry, Ceara Donnelley, R. Keith Langham, and Jill Sharp Weeks will explore preservation as inspiration, with a particular emphasis on their interior design projects in Charleston’s historic district.
The weekend also includes tours of historic homes decorated for the holidays; cooking demonstrations with chefs such as Kardea Brown, Rodney Scott, and Ivy Odom; the Southern Living Tastemakers Holiday Market in the newly renovated Charleston Visitors Center; and a live musical performance on Saturday night headlined by Ranky Tanky.
The full, three-day schedule of events is available now at IlluminationCharleston.com.
