Famulari’s Pizzeria Opens 7th Location In Hanahan
Tanner Hall Location Off North Rhett Doubles As Spacious Brew Pub
Jeff Walker, Restaurant Review
For those in North Charleston, Hanahan, and Goose Creek not familiar with Famulari’s Pizzeria, the Charleston area chain has been serving up original NY style pizza alongside calzones, burgers, subs, wraps, salads, and pasta for over 13 years. Recently they threw open the doors to their seventh location in the Tanner Hall Plantation Shopping Center, just off North Rhett in beautiful Hanahan which happens to be one of the fastest growing communities in greater Charleston.
No matter what part of the country you hail from or what type of pizza you prefer, Famulari’s Pizzeria has something for everyone. Whether you lean towards thin crust popular in New York, deep dish that’s all the rage in Chicago, or are among the many who fancy specialty pizzas, Famulari’s has you covered.
While Famulari’s is every bit an authentic pizzeria, the Hanahan location much like the James Island location is best described as a community pizzeria meets neighborhood brew pub. Not many pizza places make their own beers, but Famulari’s do, at the James Island location. Fam’s Brewing currently brews 16 beers including stouts, pilsners, and fruity IPA’s.
If you prefer a hearty brew I would suggest the Sea Pearl. Goes great with a sub or a wrap. The Problem Child (2019 Gold Medal Winner) is a double IPA with a hint of citrus and easily goes with everything on the menu. Diehards don’t fret, Famulari’s carries the traditional Budweiser products, but Bud fans may also enjoy Fam’s Beach Lite
The all new Hanahan location has a spacious covered patio, and a very accommodating bar where sports fans can watch the games. A nice place to hang out while enjoying great tasting pizza or Jimmy Burger, two all beef patties covered in white American, served up with pickle, lettuce, tomato, & onion, with a side of fresh made chips. Awesome and hearty meal that easily complements a cold brew.
Four signature burgers in all including the California (bacon, avocado, provolone), and the Patty Melt with caramelize onions on Texas toast. Plenty of tasty options at Famulari’s. Five signature salads, Chicken Parmesan in a wrap or a sub. Craving old school Italian, yet still want an entree that will easily fill you up, than opt for a calzone (mozzarella & ricotta cheese folded into a golden crust served with a side of house made marinara). You can’t go wrong with
But make no mistake, pizza is their thing at Famulari’s. The same original sauce and prep they’ve held fast too since 2008, when the four original partners found their way to Charleston SC is still coming out of the kitchen in 2021. The guys hail for Boston, MA and Wisconsin so they know a thing or two about northern style and midwestern pizza, and they definitely know their cheese.
Famulari’s authenticity quickly spread and now the group have locations in Cane Bay, Summerville off I-26, Hwy 61 West Ashley, James Island, Clements Ferry Road, with the original location on Old Trolley in Oakbrook, and now lucky number seven sits in Hanahan at Tanner Hall convenient to residents of North Charleston near Remount and Goose Creek folks near Red Bank Road.
Come in for thin crust pizza, or a Chicago deep dish pan style pizza filled with mozzarella, your choice of toppings, and topped with their chunky sauce. Easily feeds two. Specialty pizzas include the Angry Hawaiian (Canadian bacon & pineapple), the Margherita, Philly Cheese Steak or Carolina Blue. Over a dozen specialty pizzas or create your own.
The Hanahan location is spacious, has a decent size bar, a relaxing patio, and most of all great food & drink. Popping in to watch a game maybe order Pepperoni Rolls or Cheese Bread while enjoying a cold brew at the bar. It’s a safe bet you won’t go wrong no matter what you order.
They host happy hour daily from 4-7pm. Mondays you can get all burgers half off all day (you read that right, half off all day). Tuesday enjoy 10 inch one topping pizzas for just $6, with $5 margaritas. And Sunday’s appetizers are half off with $13 Mimosa Carafes. Can you say Sunday brunch.
After settling in over the holiday season, Famulari’s Pizzeria in Tanner Hall hopes to start offering up live music and trivia. More than just good food & drink on tap. For more and daily specials at specific locations visit their site at https://www.famularis.com/
