The Gin Joint and Old Forester to Host “Women and Whiskey” in Support of Breast Cancer Patients in South Carolina
On Wednesday, December 8th, The Gin Joint and Old Forester will host “Women and Whiskey,” a 4-course tasting meal that will run from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The event, which will be held at The Gin Joint (182 East Bay St.), will raise money to enhance the quality of life for breast cancer patients in South Carolina, while also highlighting the women who play leading roles in the Whiskey industry.
While the event was originally started by Brown Forman and Breakthru to honor women in the spirit industry, the event has grown to be a charitable endeavor, with each ticket purchased contributing to a donation to Share Our Suzy, a charity that offers assistance to individuals battling breast cancer.
“Breast cancer is, unfortunately, something that hits close to home at The Gin Joint,” said owner Wells Bolt. “(We) have loved ones who have either battled or are currently battling breast cancer. Breakthru, Brown Forman, and The Gin Joint will all be making a charitable donation for each ticket.”
All of the proceeds collected at “Women and Whiskey” will be going to the charity’s local chapter of Share Our Suzy and will help provide funds for wigs, childcare, rides, appointments, or any financial burdens associated with breast cancer.
The 4-course tasting meal is $65 per ticket (plus tax) and The Gin Joint will be curating a menu to pair with Old Forester’s Whiskey Row lineup. The dinner will feature a guided tasting from whiskey educators Jim Laminak and Joe Ziegler, as well as raffle items for the attendees.
Women and Whiskey encourages women to get more interested in the male-dominated spirit industry as well as celebrate current women that are master blenders, distillers, and educators behind the scenes.
