GoFundMe Launched for Victims of Dempsey Street Mobile Home Fire
The North Charleston Fire Department and Charleston County EMS responded to a fire at a mobile home on Dempsey Street in North Charleston at 3:12 am Wednesday morning. Fidel Cruz, Saul Acahua, and Henry Pacheco made it out safely, but lost their home of 20 years and two of their seven dogs also died from smoke inhalation.
According to Cruz, in a matter of just three minutes, he, his brother, and longtime friend lost all their possessions, including clothing, furniture, phones, and important paperwork they accumulated over the years. Despite the tragedy they are in good spirits and grateful for the outpouring of support they have received in the days since the fire.
A verified GoFundMe has been created by a family friend to support the men financially as they attempt to rebuild this holiday season and beyond. They are currently staying with friends and intend to use any donations they receive to secure a new place to live, furniture, and clothing.
Cash or physical donations can be dropped off at Change Up Cuts Barbershop and Beauty Center during hours of operation. Change Up Cuts is located at 5900 Rivers Ave. Unit D-4 in North Charleston.
