Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. to Host “Home for the Holidays Concert”
The Charleston Symphony Orchestra League, Inc. (CSOL) will present the “Home for the Holidays Concert” on December 29th at 4 pm in the Second Presbyterian Church located at 342 Meeting Street.
This concert features former CSOL scholarship recipients for an afternoon of chamber music in a special setting. Proceeds benefit the David and Karen Stahl Memorial Scholarship Fund of the CSOL, given annually to the top-ranked graduating high school senior who plans to major in music in college.
Performers this year include Emma Joyce, Benjamin Kremer, Karen Mendes-Escobar, Manuel Mendes-Escobar, Elliott Weeks, violins; Marshall McArthur, Yosef Chang, viola; Erica Kremer, cello; and Caleb Borick, piano. The program will feature both solos and ensembles including selections from the Brahms Piano Quintet in F Minor, W.A.Mozart String Quartet No. 19 in C Major, Corelli Concerto Grosso Op. 6, No. 8 “Christmas Concerto.”
Some of these talented musicians are already in college preparing for their careers in music. Others are still in Charleston preparing for advanced study. After the recital, a meet and greet session will provide an opportunity to meet the musicians.
The David and Karen Stahl Memorial Scholarship Fund honors David Stahl, Conductor of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra from 1984 to 2010. A former protégé of Leonard Bernstein, Stahl gained international recognition. During his tenure in Charleston, David Stahl took special interest in mentoring young musicians such as Jonathon Heyward, currently Chief Conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie
Adult tickets are $35, while students are admitted free of charge. Reservations are available online at www.csolinc.org. It is also possible to pay at the door by cash or check.
