DeLand, Florida – Despite falling down by as many 15 early in the second half, Charleston Basketball mounted a comeback but fell just short in a 67-59 loss on the road Thursday night at Stetson. The Cougars drop to 7-4 on the season. Charleston no doubt loves the reception they get at home since they are 5-1 at TD Arena, and 2-3 on the road.

An 11-2 CofC run spurred by tenacious defense sliced the Cougars’ second-half deficit to three with 5:27 remaining. A tough bucket in the lane from Brenden Tucker and a transition triple by Fah’mir Ali capped the run to get Charleston within one possession.

Stetson responded though on the back of Chase Johnston, whose shot clock-beating 3-pointer from well beyond the arc allowed the Hatters to seize back momentum. The Cougars battled in the final four minutes of action, but the comeback effort came up short.

The final stats favored the visitors except the most crucial one. CofC shot poorly on the night, finishing 20 of 63 from the field for 31 percent overall, making just 4 of 26 from beyond the arc.

Freshman Raekwon Horton led CofC with a career-high 14 points and a career-best nine rebounds. He added three steals and three assists in the best performance of his young career. Tucker tossed in 11 points and senior Dimitrius Underwood finished with eight points and eight boards.
