CCPL Encourages Community Members Without Internet Access to Visit Local Branch to Order Free at-home COVID Tests Online

With the recent announcement by the federal government that households in the U.S. can now order free at-home COVID-19 test kits online to receive by mail, Charleston County Public Library is reminding the community about its free computer and W-Fi services. Starting on January 18th, each household may now submit an online order through the US Government’s website, covidtests.gov, to receive four free rapid antigen COVID-19 tests. There is a limit of one order of four tests per residential address and orders will ship for free starting in late January, according to the United States Postal Service site.
The online form takes less than two minutes to complete and CCPL branches are accessible to the public during operating hours for free use of public computers and Wi-Fi.
“For libraries, providing equitable access to vital services and resources is a top priority, so we wanted to help connect our communities to these tests,” said CCPL Executive Director Angela Craig. “We hope that through our already existing services, we can help get these tests into the hands of those that need them by highlighting our free computer and internet services.”

How to get your free COVID-19 tests
Ordering the tests is a quick and simple process. You only need to provide the United States Postal Service (USPS) with a few pieces of information to order your free test kits. You won’t be asked to provide any credit or debit card details as both the tests and shipping are free, according to the government website.
- Visit covidtests.gov
- Enter your contact details and shipping information (address).
- Click ‘Check Out Now.’
- Verify your information is correct and select ‘Place My Order.’
